Eric Carle’s A House for Hermit Crab is the perfect starting point for a first grade lesson that integrates art, reading, and science.
My Many Colored Accordion Books
My Many Colored Days, written by Dr. Seuss and illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher, is an ideal book to introduce kindergarteners to the connection between feelings and colors.
Imaginary Creatures Inspired by Karel Appel
Third graders demonstrated their color-mixing expertise by making imaginary creatures inspired by Karel Appel’s vibrant screenprints.

A family member gave me a collection of photos of cars and I couldn’t wait to share them with my students. The well-worn copy of Draw Cars in my classroom library of how-to-draw books seemed like a strong indication that they would be excited about this project!
